Sail through the waters of the Pantanal aboard an intimate river cruise, guided by expert naturalists who will lead you on an immersive safari complemented by the flavors of local cuisine.
Oh, the Pantanal! Who would have imagined that an annual cycle of flooding and drought could give rise to such a fascinating and life-rich biome? Home to an estimated 3.500 plant species, 650 bird species, 150 mammals, and nearly 100 reptiles, this region has earned UNESCO recognition as a World Natural Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve. It is the world’s largest tropical wetland, located in the Upper Paraguay River Basin, spanning not only Brazil but also parts of Paraguay and Bolivia.
With such biodiversity, the region attracts safari enthusiasts and those who value nature in its purest form. Macaws, jaguars, tapirs, caimans, and giant otters are just some of the species you might encounter. Yet it’s not only the floating water hyacinths and rich wildlife that define the Pantanal—the cuisine and cultural heritage of the region add an unforgettable dimension to the journey.
Discover the Pantanal River Cruise
The best way to explore this vast wetland is by navigating its waters. The sensation of gliding along the rivers, watching clouds and treetops mirrored on the surface while staying alert for wildlife activity, is simply indescribable.
With only seven cabins, the Pantanal River Cruise offers a personalized experience and the unique convenience of waking up each day to a new landscape.
The Itinerary
Get ready for six days and five nights of pure adventure through the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul. The journey begins with group arrival at Cuiabá Airport. From there, a private vehicle takes you to the city of Poconé, where the first safari takes place on land, traversing the famous Transpantaneira Highway.
Upon arrival in Porto Jofre—a region known for the highest concentration of the world’s third-largest feline—you’ll board the Akaia, a vessel that will cruise along the region’s two main rivers, the Paraguay and Cuiabá.

Each day features two safari outings via a small motorboat, granting access to more remote areas for safe, respectful wildlife viewing. Passionate about photography? Be sure to clear space on your memory card—you’ll need it.
The challenge will be choosing the most magical location: the Meeting of the Waters State Park, Pantanal National Park, the Acurizal Reserve, or the stunning mountainous contrasts of the Serra do Amolar, where travelers disembark for a scenic hike.
Before disembarking in Corumbá, guests will also enjoy a snorkeling experience in the Paraguay-Mirim River. The journey ends at Campo Grande Airport.
What’s Included
All meals and beverages are included. Expect gourmet spreads of assorted cheeses and traditional Pantanal dishes. Drinks include caipirinhas, wines, and sparkling wines. The onboard team is flexible and can adjust the menu to accommodate dietary needs.
While the cabins are modest, each has a private bathroom and all the comfort needed for a peaceful night’s sleep. The ample indoor and outdoor common areas encourage group interaction and relaxation. The trip is designed for disconnection—but if needed, the Akaia is equipped with onboard internet.
Best of all, you’ll return home enriched by the knowledge shared by expert guides—and inspired to help preserve this vital biome.
Important: Expeditions usually take place from May to October, and spots are in high demand. Advance booking is essential—often months ahead.
