In Brazil, the Nordic country already invests in renewable energies and in the preservation of national ecosystems

In Brazil, Norwegian investment in renewable energies represents 4% of the total invested in the energy sector – Aian O'neill.

With the aim of reconciling development and climate policies that prioritize the preservation of ecosystems, the Norwegian government aims to take international leadership in the investment and development of renewable energy and climate technology in countries with emerging economies.

According to the Norwegian Embassy in Brazil, the Nordic country, which intends to lead international climate actions in favor of sustainability, is already carrying out actions in Brazil and in other countries aimed at developing technology for capturing and storing carbon and energy sources. renewable energy, the promotion of “green shipping” and actions aimed at more sustainable world oceans.

In Brazilian territory, Norwegian investment in renewable energies represents 4% of the total invested in the energy sector, a trend that, according to the Embassy, tends to increase in the coming years. Furthermore, projects aimed at innovation led to a doubling of the number of
Norwegian companies in Brazil that work with renewable energy, according to the Norwegian Investments in Brazil Report, published in 2021. Another area of activity in the Nordic country is in supporting projects by indigenous associations and indigenist organizations that mainly aim at the conservation of native forests and investment in innovation and research.

Norway is in a moment of green transition, in which, on the one hand, it still has a large production of oil and natural gas, on the other hand, it is in constant search for more sustainable and cleaner alternatives. In the country, 80% of domestic emissions are subject to a carbon price and one of the targets for protecting the environment by 2030 is to reduce carbon emissions by 55% compared to 1990. “Norway is an example in the area of sustainability. In addition to a speech, the country is showing that it is possible to have more sustainable practices and is an inspiration for several countries, including Brazil”, highlighted environmental and medical activist Karina Oliani. The activist presents the fifth episode of the webseries “Essences of Norway”, a campaign promoted in the Instagram of the Embassy of Norway in Brazil, which deals with the pillars of the Scandinavian country.

The new episode – which premieres on July 15th – discusses the different sustainable initiatives implemented by Norway, in its own territory and in Brazil, a partner considered by the Embassy to be strategic in the conservation of the planet's ecosystems. Previous episodes on Governance, Gender Equality and Diversity, Technology & Sustainable Energy and Culture and Hospitality can also be checked on Instagram of the Norwegian Embassy in Brazil through link.
