Barbados, the island full of attractions in the Caribbean Sea, is known for its tropical climate, where the practice of outdoor exercises is favored throughout the year. Paradise is ideal for various sports, from diving, golf to running and marathons. To promote these practices and the beautiful landscapes of the island, every year the Run Barbados Marathon Weekend event, a territory-wide marathon, is organized and provides innovative experiences for residents and visitors of Barbados.
This year, the 39th edition of the event will last for two days, starting on the 10th of December, in Bathsheba Park. The event will open with a warm-up session, followed by the race, which will take the picturesque and rustic east coast of Barbados as its route, where runners will be able to enjoy the natural beauty and feel the cool ocean breeze to the sound of steel drums, traditional “tuk bands”.
The event is divided into categories: runs and walks that vary according to the route. On Saturday, the 10km run starts at 16:15pm, the 5km run starts at 16:20pm and the 5km walk starts at 16:30pm. lower temperatures and take place from 11:12 am, and are followed by the 5km run at 30 am and the 7km run at 6:3 am.
Every year, the Run Barbados Marathon welcomes amateur runners from around the world. Wheelchair competitors also make an appearance in the races, as well as families participating in the 5K walks. To make the event more interesting, music and entertainment are offered at the departure/arrival points. The marathon is a highly anticipated event in Barbados, as it is attended by people who want to get to know the island better, but also combine sports practices with cultural entertainment.
